To protect the habitats of a approximately 170 species of native and migratory birds. Habitats include salt marshes, brackish marshes, fresh water wetlands, barrier beaches, sand dunes and upland.

It is prohibited for visitors to bike, camp or start fires in the area.

Cape Jourimain functions as a refuge for approximately 170 species of native and migratory birds, including great blue herons, ospreys, willets, and American black ducks. It has a diverse array of habitats, such as salt marshes, brackish marshes, and fresh water wetlands. The Cape provides one of the most exceptional shorebird viewing areas in the Atlantic region. It is open to the public, and visitors can hike its over 7 km of nature trails.
