Emplacement: Scotian Shelf Bioregion
Superficie approximative: 727,420 hectares
Date de désignation: 2017
Objectifs de conservation

To protect seafloor habitat for many species, in particular Atlantic cod.

Interdictions

Bottom-contact fishing methods, such as bottom trawls, are prohibited in the closure.

Pourquoi (contexte environnemental pour la protection)

The closure contains large concentrations of bottom-dwelling marine species. It especially protects Atlantic cod, a species that once experienced severe overfishing. Other species that rely on seafloor habitat, such as snow crabs and smooth skates, are also protected by the closure.
