Protected Area Type:  Other marine or freshwater protected area
Conservation Objectives

To protect a representative example of the Northern Davis Natural Region, respect the Inuit’s special relationship with the area, and foster public understanding and appreciation of the park while ensuring its ecological and commemorative integrity for future generations.

Prohibitions

Prohibitions exist on long-drop rappelling, paragliding, BASE jumping, parachuting, and parasailing: These are all deemed too risky and are not permitted within the park. Hunting is not allowed in national parks, nor are activities that damage the park’s natural environment.

Auyuittuq National Park is a unique Arctic ecosystem, including the Penny Ice Cap, and is the habitat of various wildlife, including Peary caribou and polar bears.
