Protected Area Type:  Other marine or freshwater protected area
Conservation Objectives

To provide a haven for the eagles and seabirds that soar above the Salish Sea and British Columbia’s southern Gulf Islands off the eastern coast of Vancouver Island, and to protect the sheltered, islet-dotted waters that teem with seals, otters, orcas and porpoises.

Prohibitions

Prohibitions exist on removing any flora or natural or cultural objects, feeding or removing wildlife from the park, fires in the park outside of designated fire pits, unleashed pets, camping outside of campgrounds, and the possession of firearms (except for First Nations engaging in traditional hunting).

Gulf Islands National Park Reserve possesses unique ecosystems, which include diverse marine and terrestrial habitats, home to many species of plants and animals that rely on these environments. The park is particularly focused on protecting the Strait of Georgia Lowlands natural region.
