Les Demoiselles nursery (Plaisance Bay), Magdalen Islands Closure

To protect habitat used as a nursery ground for juvenile American lobsters.

Various forms of bottom fishing, such as hydraulic dredging or trawling, are prohibited in the closure.

The closure encompasses habitat that American lobsters use to nurse their young. By protecting nursery grounds from fishing, lobster numbers in the closure should increase. The closure also helps to protect various other marine species such as winter flounders, yellowtail flounders, and Atlantic razor clams.
