https://canadaoceanmap.ca/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Lobster-Area-Closures-37940880-Lobster-1.jpg
Approximate Area: 7636.12 hectares
Date of Designation: 1998
Conservation Objectives

To increase American lobster egg production by protecting lobster spawning habitat.

Prohibitions

All lobster fishing is prohibited in the closures.

Why (environmental context for protection)

These closures protect inshore shallow and rocky areas along the Newfoundland coast where American lobsters spawn and lay eggs. Lobsters are important predators in these environments, and small lobsters are also food sources for many other species. As such, protecting lobsters contributes to the overall health of local food webs.
