Conservation Objectives

To protect the unique Arctic ecosystems and wildlife habitats of the Western High Arctic region, particularly the endangered Peary caribou, while also respecting and incorporating Inuit traditional knowledge and involvement in the park’s management.

Prohibitions

Visitors, excepting Nunavut Inuit, must register and de-register with Parks Canada, either in person or by phone, before entering and after exiting the park. Fires are not permitted, and, with the exception of Inuit sled dogs, pets are not allowed.

Qausuittuq National Park is a vast arctic wilderness home to Peary caribou, muskoxen and polar bears. Inuktitut for “place where the sun doesn’t rise,” Qausuittuq is an area rich in natural and cultural heritage in Nunavut’s High Arctic.
